Round One of Memphis Grizzlies Dancer Auditions

Auditions to be a dancer for the Memphis Grizzlies begin on Saturday, August 11 at the practice facility at the FedEx Forum. Registration begins at 9am and ends at 10am.
Dance auditions are only open for females who are at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school.

Bring with you a dance resume and a head shot. Check out the website for more information on try outs. Good Luck!

Memphis Police Department – Now Hiring

The MPD is hiring for full time and reserve officers, as well as PSTs. This gives residents an excellent opportunity to give back to our community and make a difference for our citizens. If you think you have what it takes to become on of Memphis’ finest, head out to the Memphis Police Deparment Training Academy (4371 O.K. Robertson Road – Frayser) to pick up an application packet.

Spend the Night in a Haunted House

On Saturday, August 11, the Memphis – Mid South Ghost Hunters are giving non experienced ghost hunters the chance to spend the night it a real haunted house and learn a few things about paranormal investigations. The event is at the Magnolia Manor Bed & Breakfast, located in Bolivar, Tennessee. Guests of the Bed & Breakfast have reportedly heard ghost noises, seen apparitions, seen objects move, lights turn on and off, and watched doors shut by themselves. If you’ve ever been curious about ghosts or paranormal activity, this is your chance to check it out.

Saturday, August 11, Chris Isaak will be performing as part of the Live at the Garden, Summer Concert Series at the Memphis Botanic Gardens.

Live at the Garden gives you the opportunity to spend an evening enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Gardens as you enjoy a snack and listen to the fabulous music of Chris Isaak.

Tickets start at $35.

The show starts at 8:30 pm (gates open at 7pm).

City of Memphis Amnesty Program for Tickets

If you’ve been driving around Memphis with a suspended license, you may be able to get some help getting your license back in good standing. The City Court Clerk’s Office has announced an amnesty program that will continue until the end of the year. Fees and fines that are 10 years old will be reduced by 50 percent, allowing people to get their licenses reinstated much cheaper and quicker.

Visit or call the City Court Clerk’s office (545-5400) to see if you are eligible and what you need to do.

Children’s Museum of Memphis – Space Exhibit

The Children’s Museum of Memphis has new traveling exhibit called Living in Space.

The exhibit gives kids the chance to see what life is like for an astronaut in space. Kids get to pretend to do official science research as they work as astronauts and get to see what it is like to live, play, and eat in space. Kids can also experience real stories from space.

The exhibit is made up of three parts: “Living in Space,” “Working in Space” and “Playing in Space.” Each part gives kids a chance at hands on, educational fun. They even get to see what it’s like to have to go to the bathroom in space!

Living in Space is presented in English and Spanish.

Admission to the exhibit is included with regular museum admission.

The exhibit will be on display through December 16, 2007.

Kathy Bates – Memphis Celebrity

Many people are familiar with the work of Kathy Bates. She has been in Misery, About Schmidt, The Water Boy, a voice in Charlotte’s Web, Titanic, Failure to Launch, and Fried Green Tomatoes, just to name a few.

What many people may not know is that she is from right here in Memphis, Tennessee and even graduated from White Station High School.

It’s pretty neat that Memphis was home for such an accomplished actress.

Hurricane on the Bayou

Hurricane on the Bayou is playing at the Pink Palace IMAX Theater (sponsored by the Weather Channel) until November 9, 2007.

The show is narrated by Meryl Streep and gives viewers an amazing view of the Louisiana Bayou and New Orleans and the wetlands and the effects on these beautiful places after natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina.

Hurricane on the Bayou is a must see!

This Saturday, July 14th, Food Awareness, Memphis’ only Vegetarian group, is hosting an event to get together vegetarians and the vegetarian curious for chance to learn more about vegetarians and vegans as well as a great opportunity for socialization. The event is taking place at Creole Café at Comedy, TN (Sycamore View and Macon). The normally carnivore friendly restaurant is going to be taking a shot at herbivore cooking for the event so visitors can learn about the vegetarian and vegan lifestyle as well as try some delicious food.

You probably have never even thought about square dancing before (if you have that’s great). A lot of people don’t even know what it is, or may think that it is stupid or something that old people used to do wearing funny outfits. Well, that’s not true today. Square dancing can be tons of fun and a great workout. Just ask the Cotton Pickin’ Squares. They are a Memphis square dance group that loves to have fun. They meet every Thursday at 7pm at Holy Trinity church on Highland - 685 S. Highland (just past the U of M).
